Pearlcrest Hospitality Training Institute (PHTI) is a project of Kyoga Foundation, a not-for-profit making organization, which promotes social welfare in Uganda. Pearlcrest offers Professional Courses in the Hotel and Hospitality Industry to young women in Uganda, at the technical and supervisory level. The development of these skills is seen as an important contribution to the economic, industrial and social needs of Uganda.

The Institute provides educational services at subsidized costs to enable more Ugandan women to acquire professional training and therefore improve their living conditions. Pearlcrest gives girls life long skills in catering, management and hospitality.

Our Mission

Our mission is to offer young women, an opportunity to improve their lives and the lives of their families, by giving them high quality training in Hospitality and Accommodation Management, as well as equipping them with social skills. The training is aimed at developing the students into women of integrity and maturity, who possess the relevant quality skills demanded by the Hospitality and Catering sector in Uganda.

For the formation of self reliant students, the Institute gives the trainees the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes that enable them to start, operate and manage personal or group business enterprises. It also instils in them the drive needed to venture into profit making activities. The course is open to young women from all over Uganda, regardless of tribe, religious denomination or background.

Our Objectives

  • To offer post-secondary technical education for livelihood and self-employment skills to girls from urban and rural areas, who do not have access to university education due to economic constraints and those who would like to develop a career in the hospitality line.
  • To equip Ugandans with skills and enhance their capacity to satisfy the world-class standards required in today’s Hotel and Hospitality Industry, with its diverse international clients.
  • To train change agents who will uplift standards of living in their own families and their home areas as well.
  • To put the girls in a better position to get good jobs in the areas of Hospitality services, Tourism and Educational Industries.
  • To initiate outreach programmes offering Nutrition, Dietetics, Cookery, Housekeeping and Hygiene classes to village women.
  •  The spiritual and doctrinal formation offered at Pearlcrest is entrusted to Opus Dei, a Personal Prelature of the Catholic Church.

Our History

Pearlcrest began in November, 2003. “Pearlcrest” is derived from the two words “Pearl” and “Crest”. “Pearl”, adopted from “Uganda, the Pearl of Africa” meaning Precious and of great beauty. “Crest”, meaning, the summit or the highest. Thus “Pearlcrest” is symbolic of the aim to be the premier Catering and Hospitality Training Institute in Uganda.

Pearlcrest Hospitality Training Institute – PHTI – was set up in view of the quest for rural transformation in Uganda. Pearlcrest intends to do this by helping the Hospitality and Catering Industry become a dynamic engine of growth within the Private Sector.
